The Sludge of March

Where have I been? Do I exist? Did aliens capture me while I was driving home from a late-night shopping trip at the local IGA, then lay me across a make-shift temple in the middle of Ohio? No. At least, not that I know of. What I do know is I am writing a lot, and I am kind of crazy and, oh yeah, also I am a horrible blogger. Wish I cold blame aliens on that . . .

Coco the kitty is staring at my blogger document right now. If only she could write blogs, she'd have a lot to tell you. The way she pretends a twisted up pipe cleaner is a mouse, the way she walks through the hall in the morning, crying, crying, until I call her in and she runs to me, jumps up on the computer desk and sits right on top of the keyboard. She's my lucky Coco kitty. The official fluffmeister of the feline kingdom. How I love my Coco.

Coco, editing a document

It's going to snow again. What's up with that? For awhile there I thought God was trying to kill us with snowflakes. It just kept coming and coming. You couldn't even see the neighbor's jacked-up fence, or hear the sound of a their dogs barking before making their daily escape under the fence so they can run around the neighborhood wrecking things.

Gee, I sure wish spring would get here so I could go outside and tell Mother Nature what I really think. Let's face it, she doesn't care. No one cares. It's just going to snow and snow and then fall will get here and we'll say, what happened to summer? And Mother Nature's out there somewhere in a silk dress smoking a cigar and she's got Man Ray painting her toenails. Someone buy her a drink.

By the way, have you guys ever heard of cabin fever?

Also, anyone want to give me an elaborate description of Paris, 1980-ish? Mostly the art scene: what and where everyone was living, talking about, eating, doing?

And I hope you are fine. And thank you for stopping by!

  1. I wish I were in Paris, in 1980ish. Ah, well. We will just wait on Mother Nature.

  2. Hi Amy, wondered where you were. Great to hear from you again. Coco is beautiful - hasn't she grown. I think we're all wanting spring to come. It's very cold here too.

  3. We have missed you, but I just figured you were working on your next book.

You are talking about Paris, France, not Paris, Ohio, right. Back in the 80's I flew over France on my way to Greece, but I didn't take pictures.

    1. Yes, I have been working on the next book. It seems like I have so much that I need to/want to write, and there's just not enough time. Hope things are well with you!

  4. "The way she pretends a twisted up pipe cleaner is a mouse..."

Gosh, I do that! Enjoyable post.

    1. Ha! Yeah, she carries it around with her mouth and then flings it into the air like it's a real live mouse. Actually, she did catch one in the garage earlier this winter. Didn't kill it, though. She just kept playing and playing, just like with the pipe cleaner. When I threw it outside, she looked very letdown. : )

  5. Paris in the 80's? Yup, I was there. But I couldn't possibly reveal our secrets, too many of the players are now criminals, or politicians, or both!

    1. Le sigh. I understand, and I respect your need for privacy. However, my next post will be a long detailed questionnaire about what you would've done and who you would've known if you had lived in a 'fictional' place that was just like France, but not France.

  6. First time I was in Paris was, I think, 1976. I was there just one day at the start of a trip round Europe with the girl I'm married to now. Art and culture rather passed us by. I do remember that wine was cheaper than Coca Cola and, being poor and thirsty, we drank a lot of it. The next day we discovered why it was so cheap and have avoiding Vin du Table ever since. The French reputation for knowing wine is ridiculously over-rated. In those days they had the highest incidence of cirrhosis of the liver in Western Europe.

    They were good times, though.

    1. Thank you, Tom. That was actually pretty good info, and any little bit helps! Yesterday I had almost convinced myself I didn't need to write my character into Paris. Not sure why, but New York was much easier for me to write about—and I've never been their, either. But, when it came down to it, I decided the Paris section is needed, and so I'm just going to do the best I can. Fun research, that's for sure!
